Thanks Denis for the suggestion - I will read up on torque multipliers. Joe - Thanks for your comments. The C&C 24 has large stainless washers (in one case quite a few of them stacked) to spread the load. I will go carefully so as not to crush the fibreglass and if I cannot approach the correct torque perhaps I will need to fabricate some larger stainless backing plates.
