Great choice Richard-- Both my poles are Forte and have worked well and looked good for 10+ years. I thought they were better made and were definitely less expensive than the Forespar (?) poles at that time. Charlie Nelson

"The pole is painted in a high quality (Alexseal brand) 2 – part polyurethane clear paint and it does serve as UV protection. Most masts, outriggers, spin poles etc are painted with the same paint and last for many years in the direct sun. Having said that, a little extra protection certainly would not hurt. A sun cover for storage would be nice, but if the poles starts to look crappy, it can be disassembled and repainted and it will look good again. As far as cleaning, you can treat it just like it was a painted fiberglass surface (similar to the side of your boat – although that is probably gelcoat). Most importantly I would say would be to keep sand out of it. I don’t think I would worry too much about heat build up from the sun, the carbon fiber tubes are cured at 300F and the Tg is around 220F. So they would have to get up past 220 before they epoxy started to soften and even that wouldnt hurt it as long as it wasn’t under a lot of stress when it was that hot.
