Earlier today there was a post about Raspberry Pi and the Internet Of Boats ... Tarts Sensors, as an example, has a voltage sensor ( detects on/off ) for $30 but you'd have to add in a bit more kit and a bit of programming to get it all integrated. But then you could be on your way for IoT.
