Hi David,
My boat didn't have the documented numbers displayed so I found a nice piece of 
teak board about 3/4" thick x 5" wide by 30" long and fit it up to my ice box, 
and carved the number into the board.  I routed the edges and plugged the screw 
heads and it looks factory.
