I have a horseshoe and a LifeSling. The horseshoe is connected to a strobe and its purpose is to get tossed overboard as fast as possible to provide something for the MOB to swim to at best and a marker to base a search pattern on at worst. The LifeSling is the actual retrieval device. Anyone who has ever piloted a ski boat will be familiar with the maneuver to bring it to the person in the water.
