While in Mahone Bay, make sure you stop at Oak Island. You may be there when
they find treasure (like the Arc of the Covenant, or Noah’s Arc, or whatever). 😃

Subject: Re: Stus-List Cruising guides for Nova Scotia

Hi Mike,

Last summer we sailed up to Nova Scotia (from RI) and, when we got there, we
used the CCA guide. It seemed adequate for the harbor hopping that we did from
Shelburne to St Petes, Bras D'or Lakes. It is bare bones though -- mostly
narrative and none of the illustrated charts that are common in other cruising
guides I've seen. There are lots of places along the NS coast to drop the
hook but if you need fuel and supplies (gas in my case as I still have the
original Atomic 4 in my C&C33) the options are limited between Halifax and St
Peters. In fact, even Mahone bay, where I thought for sure there would be
fuel, only had diesel at the gas dock so we had to ferry fuel in jerry cans
from gas station using the dinghy -- all part of the fun! Luckily the winds
were very cooperative so we didn't really need much fuel.

This one is getting to be quite out of date now but was good when we first used
it back in 2010: Cruising Guide to the Canadian Maritimes, 1st Edition, 2007

Cruising Guide to the Canadian Maritimes covers ports and harbours of southern
Newfoundland, Cape Breton, Magdalen Islands, Saint-Pierre-et-Miquelon and PEI.
It has sailing directions for the Bras d'Or Lakes, Great Bras d'Or, Baddeck
Harbour.

Ok Gang, asking for a friend who plans on sailing north and invading your
Canadian Coastline this Summer.

What is a good Cruising Guide Source for Nova Scotia etc? there are a couple on
Amazon (one put out by CCA) but he tells me they are terrible.

Any suggestions? Sadly he has an Albin Trawler (so you might not want his sorry
butt in Canada)
