Hi Pete,

I have raced the PacCup twice. Last time was 2018 and I was the Navigator
on a Cal 40.
I used OpenCPN as my navigation tool with the Weather Routing plug in. I
had modified the polars to avoid getting routes too deep (as far as DDW -
skipper was not comfortable with trying to sail downwind at angles greater
than 165 and even then...)
Before the race we used Weatherguy (Rick Shema, www.weatherguy.com - he's
based in Hawaii) who gave me a comprehensive report 24 hours before our
start and also a telephone call on the way to the start. (We were not
allowed 'outside help' during the race.) His advice was really good.

Feel free to contact me off list for more information. Are you planning on
doing the race next year?
