I had the same thing happen earlier i the year. It turned out the the fuel dock had recently installed new high volume pumps, I assume to speed up filling larges motor yachts, and that, not the fill tube was the issue. You may want to check that before you start tearing out things.

This year my tank started to fill rather slowly. Trying to fill faster resulted in fuel backing up in the hose. I haven?t gotten to it yet but I?ll replace the fill and vent hoses to see if that cures it.
