I think you are over-thinking this, Couldn’t you just use a 4X 4 upright and screw a bracket to it or something?
I used to use a 6X6, with a crutch screwed to it to support 80% of my laid down mast, and used duct tape around the mast partners to keep most of the water out. That was pretty heavy, tho. I have a mast up cover that lays over the boom, but part of this winter I expect to have to store the boat outside with the mast down (due to work being done on the hull inside a shed). I was thinking that an easy way to do this would be to find someone’s broken mast and use the part up to the gooseneck to stick in my mast opening.
