Keep in mind that the AGMs require somewhat different charging characteristics. Gels are more of a “drop-in” solution.
Since “marine how-tos” were quoted here not so long ago, I would suggest visiting that site and doing a bit of reading there. He has plenty of info, both plus and minus about the AGMs. Both (AGM and gel) are much more sensitive to abuse. Flooded can’t be that easily murdered and are cheaper. Any gel can work in any position, even upside down. A major plus on a sailboat (hopefully, not the upside down part). And even if they off-gas, this is substantially less than the standard flooded cells. I use gels. Mainly, because they are under the berth in the main cabin. They are into their 9th year.
