John,
I hope you are doing the Ocracoke race this Saturday. Weather is looking
nice, tho a bit on the light side.
We're racing non-spin, but have both the sym and asym chute to play with
for the ride back to Washington on Sunday.
If we don't see you this weekend, We'll see you at starting line of the
Dragon's Breath regatta in August. Unfortunately, still racing with the
84 PHRF.

Thanks All,
My NC PHRF sail rating is 135 and that was same they gave the benny37?
( unofficial ) We desyoyed him.
Really just sharing my excitement as it's not a crazy group of high
end race boats. Maybe get 8-10 boats if lucky 5-6 in the JAM class
Doubt I will change anything else. Just Trying to keep the racing
scene alive on the neuse, and waiting to get killed by Charlie on
water phantom with his crack crew and crazy sails :) we have like
2800 boats registered in Oriental and lucky to see 15 out on Sunday!
Really thought there would be more of a racing scene but I am having
fun and learning! I do have a spinnaker but would be up against J24
and few pros on Etchells in that class!
If anyone wants to help me get acquainted with the symetrical spin I
would really love to fly it !
Looking for crew for this Saturday too! :)

Glad you are finding success racing and enjoying your boat.
My two cents: The ammount of prep needed will be determined by the
competition. So if you're winning, relax.
If you get some boats stripping out their cabins, or some "drysailed
race only boats", you may need to slim down a lot. PHRF allows
removing the cushions but not furniture. Still, many boats remove the
table, stove, and pump all tanks dry.
The most important thing for us was scrubbing the bottom prior to
race. Our fleet had a few "mirror bottom" boats; w burnished bottom
paint and one J24 that lived on a trailer and was craned in hours
before a race. All with new sails and experienced crew. Lightening the
boat is more important for light winds especially against well
prepared higher rating boats. We raced one summer and never saw race
winds above 8 knots. In one race, we followed a Viper 640 around the
triangle course. There just wasn't enough wind to move the bigger,
heavier boats. On our short triangle races, of 4.5 miles, my 93 rated
34R had to finish 5 minutes ahead to keep my place against a J28 rated
172. I couldn't afford new sails, but could afford a Hookah and
regular scrubbing proved worth the investment.
Have fun.

Thanks Richard,
I Just removed the Dodger and Bimini, and I do have bottom cleaned
ever 2 MO! Will Probably remove 100’ of 5/16 chain and 9.9 LEHR
outboard for next PHRF Race, but really not required we were a good 6
-10 min ahead of those guys on a 7.5 NM course 😊 Last PHRF we came
in first even correct against a 228 rating !

John, good for you! What have you done in prepping the boat for
racing? Do you strip the canvas-dodger, bimini, etc..? what about
anchors and chain?

This racing rookie is so proud to be the owner of this classic C&C !
This is # 3 😊
Yes, a good crew is key for sure, but this 1982, 37 is quick !In
this race most boats were not an issue, but we were up against a 1989
Tartan 37, 1979 Tartan 36 and a really nice newer model Beneteau 37
Even correct Halcyon Smoked Em by many minutes !
I am hooked for sure!! And various races arescheduled for the next
3 weekends ! Ye Ha!!
