Hi All Smart watches have become increasingly popular and tend to slave themselves to a smart phone and also have wifi. I have always thought that it would be nice to have a great sailing app running on a smart phone stashed below with the watch as a repeater. Large digits showing GPS speed, Heading Bearing, distance to waypoint, etc… Also be nice to have a nice GPS app when hiking in the woods, etc .. that acts like a marine GPS or chartplotter showing tracks, distance travelled and the like. What I have been able to find so far is trying to be more like Google Maps or a car style GPS than like either of these. A final very nice option would be the ability to use the wifi capability of the boat’s instruments to set up the watch as a repeater for speed over water, wind speed, direction, depth etc ….
Persistence has Raymarine i50/60 SDW instruments as well as a Raymarine A65 chartplotter all networked together. Watch is Samsung Galaxy watch (42mm), phone is Samsung S7 (Android). Also interested in Apple watch apps since there are likely more of them Thanks and looking forward to an interesting discussion Mike Persistence Halifax, NS
