Yes. I've used the 3M Adhesive Removal several times with good results. Acetone is good but perhaps too good. It can soften and yellow gelcoat if used aggressively and in large quantity. Be careful with it.
As I said in a previous reply mineral spirits is my solvent of choice for decal adhesives. Decal adhesives, especially those used by state agencies, tend to be very strong. You will need patience and generous applications of mineral spirits but eventually the adhesive will form little balls and come off. That's why I don't like to use acetone. If these adhesives came off with a single quick application, I wouldn't be adverse to acetone. However, because you may have to apply multiple applications of solvent, you could harm the AwlGrip. A 3M StripeOff wheel will also work. BTW, for the record, not only was I in the marine repair business 15 years working with sealants, adhesives, etc. quite often, I am a chemical engineer by education and major vocation (retired from chemical manufacturing).
