It is absolutely critical for me to add a nitrite additive SCA to my International 7.3 in the Ford F250. It prevents microscopic cavitation erosion that EATS holes in the water jacket over time without SCA. Only Yanmar can tell you if it is needed. Maybe it's the V-8 in my engine, or other design characteristics that require it. SCA is required in certain other diesel engines. The erosion occurs over time so even if it's required, one has time to track down the definitive word on the Yanmar engine, and how much if any per gallon. Bill Dakin S/V Tapestry 25-2
