I noticed that the shrouds on my 1977 C&C 24 were a little loose. I did a bit of digging and found that the base of the compression post, in the bilge, has started to rot and has caused the compression post to be about 1/2" lower than it should be. I plan to tackle this repair over winter haul out. Has anyone else experienced this? The coachhouse in the area of the mast step shows no signs of rotted core, so I don't believe that I will have any issue there. I plan to unstep the mast to rewire, so will do the compression post repair with the most off. Is there anything that I should look out for, or words to the wise from someone who has done this repair?
