I also went with plexi (two pieces).  A little heavier than wood, but no 
complaints.  My 34 had teak, which looked nice and weighed a little less – 
however, plexi does not need to be maintained.

I sourced out a piece of plexi-glass and cut it myself (there is a special 
jigsaw blade that cuts up and down and avoids “melting” the cut .)

 

Pretty cheap ..
