Agree with Bill. Guessing the reason they didn't see it on the outside is because it's mounted in a well on the inside of the hull. Could be anywhere with 12-18 inches of centerline; in a settee, dinette, v-berth or quarter berth storage, even in the engine compartment. Look for a square or round well attached to the inside of the hull with a cable coming out of it.
If the PO was really sneaky, it could be under the V-berth step. :) Dennis C.
