When you speek of "play" are you referring to wiggle between the blades, or wiggle on the shaft, or somewhere else?
When I grab on blade and hold it still and then attempt to rotate either of the other 2 blades they will rotate +or- ~1/16th of an inch. I've checked this play every time it is out of the water for the last 5 years and it hasn't changed. I typically disassemble, clean, reassemble, paint and then grease. Sometimes I just sand it and paint then grease, skipping the disassemble/reassemble part. Greasing it always "tightens" things up. Little if any play afterwards. The wear I observe on the internals seems consistent with the polishing you would expect where 2 surfaces come in contact with one another.
