The Finger Lakes stretch 150 miles right across the middle of the state and there is sailing, marinas and yacht clubs on every one of them. Also on the big lake Onandaga near Syracuse. And a bit farther North you have Lake Ontario and The Thousand Islands. The lower Adirondacks have not only the Great but the chain of lakes stretching from the NYS Thruway north through the mountains to Lake Placid. And a bit farther east you have Lake George and Lake Champlain, two of the best sailing lakes in the country. It would be hard to find an area of the country with more sailing options.Hank Evans On Thursday, August 11, 2016 9:31 AM, George Cone via CnC-List <cnc-list@cnc-list.com> wrote: I purchased a C & C 40 that had spent 7 years on the dry. This was 4 years ago. Surprisingly few item were bad, and in fact I still use 2 of the batteries and they seem to be quite good—who knows? Yes I drained the fuel out and replaced, but everything works. I am on Lake Champlain, 2 hours from my house. Yes the maintenance is a challenge and not everything gets done but I have had very little trouble . Lake Champlain or Lake George aren’t that far from central NY. And the sail from the bay up the coast and Hudson would be memorable. Dead batteries bad fuel etc. If you need to maximize your tax deduction try the Baltimore sailing center or Sea Scouts. If you could transport the boat closer to home, it could remain on the hard until you got the projects sorted out and then, moving forward, find a location, perhaps in the Finger Lakes or Southern Adirondacks that would allow more frequent use of the boat. My sister and her family sail on Great Sacandaga Reservoir in NY out of the Mayfield YC where membership and slip rentals are quite reasonable, plus the lake is over 25 miles long. There are a number of sailboats in the 30-35’ range that sail in the area and most folks that keep their boats in slips are basically using the boat as a summer lake home. I’m not sure what your launching parameters would be (travel lift, hydraulic trailer, etc.) but there must be options for you somewhere in the middle part of the state.Chuck GilchrestS/V Half Magic1983 Landfall 35Padanaram, MA From: CnC-List [mailto:cnc-list-boun...@cnc-list.com] On Behalf Of Della Barba, Joe via CnC-List Sent: Thursday, August 11, 2016 9:20 AM To: 'cnc-list@cnc-list.com' <cnc-list@cnc-list.com> Cc: Della Barba, Joe <joe.della.ba...@ssa.gov> Subject: Re: Stus-List A VERY tough decision I am not sure how being on the Shore changes the value of the boat one way or the other.I feel your pain – I tried keeping my boat on a mooring for free about 45 minutes from my house and the ability to keep up with boat chores declined a lot so I moved back the $$$ slip 10 minutes away.Is there any place local to you the boat could be? I live 7-8 hours away from my boat (it is in the Chesapeake and I am in central NY state). That is a long story in itself, but irrelevant. My boat (1982 C&C 32) has just had it rigging serviced or replaced as needed due to a yard incident and I have new floorboards that need their finishing (underside) completed, etc. etc. The boat means a lot to me and the family, but from what I hear, it is showing the fact it is neglected as we are not able to get down to the boat to keep her up. The boat hasn’t been in the water since 2009. I don’t want to, but am looking to part with the boat unless I can come up with another reasonable solution. I don’t want to part with her unless it can go to a good home and/or donate it to a good cause. I have been told that she is worth less than $10,000 USD based on the Eastern shore of MD. Thoughts or interest?
