Do not apply heat to Stainless. Two things, if hot enough it will anneal it
and make it dead soft with little of its former strength, and second, it
will likely rust after you do.

Stainless can be bent several times before it will break. We cold form all
SS, it is simply the way it is done. One thing you will notice, the more it
is cold formed, the more magnetic it will become. If you anneal it, it will
lose most of its magnetism. And then, rust, of course, unless you properly
quench it.

If you can remove the parts to a very solid vice, you can put some copper
or aluminum jaw protectors in to hold the SS Parts. Sometimes it is handy
to find appropriately sized pipe or heavy tube to help with the bending. If
you have to beat them, use a copper hammer. I keep a medium copper hammer
and a rawhide hammer in my boat toolbox for 'adjustments'.

I have straightened Stanchions by putting a 7/8" rod in a vice to slip the
stanchions over, then slipping a 1" aluminum pipe over the stanchion to bend
back.

Subject: Stus-List Bending Stainless...

So on the Figawi I ask my crew to tighten the cunningham with a four part
tackle. Nothing happens. So I ask them is the tackle pulling on the
cunningham and not some stationary object. Nope, they reply, "its good".
So they take the four part tackle tail to a halyard winch and all of a
sudden there is movement. As it was 25 knots I figured it was just a high
load day.

Nope. They literally bent one ear of the 3/8 thick stainless-steel mainsail
tack yoke down 180 degrees.

Doh!

Can I just re-bend it with or without heat? Will it be compromised if I
do so.
