I can say that going from a two blade Max-Prop to a 3 blade Gori I have way less vibration. That is why I did it. If I was not racing I would have gotten a 3 blade Flexofold.
The Max Prop seems to have a Chop-Chop sound at certain RPS’s, which I attribute to the flat blades, altho I am no expert. Sounded like cavitation. Also, the 3 Blade is supposed to break up the vertical laminar flow coming off the keel and strut, at least according to what I read on the subject. I will be back home in two days to verify that. I ordered a Flexofold 3 blades and they recommended 15" /9". The blade area is larger and I think it is too much prop for my boat, I can't push the engine over 2800. But it is a good prop and I deal with it. I just bought the boat and I'm pretty annoyed but sure the problem is that it's worn and needs maintenance. I'm planning on removing it and putting a simple 2 blade prop on, at least for now. It's hard to get info about the size and pitch specs. However, I found a website in BC that has a prop calculator and it gave me 15" with 9" pitch for my boat (CNC 33/2), engine and transmission. Does this sound right? Any comments? It has a clamshell-type folding propeller that, once in gear, is causing significant vibration above idle speed. What could be causing this?
