Subject: Re: Stus-List Raymarine tech support is a dead end)

I'd agree with that. Happy with the product (EV200 and an a75 plotter, plus a
i70 display). Tech support is lame. My issue is that my DigitalYacht AIS can
happily talk to my a75, but not to the i70 display. If I have the a75 on it
seems to repeat the AIS data in a format the i70 can understand, so it shows
AIS info. With the a75 off I get a "no AIS source" message on the i70.
Opening a question on their tech forum did not yield any sensible reply. I'd
like to be able to show AIS on the i70 when I don't have the a75 on, using less
power.

I bought an EV-100 last spring on the internet. I thought I needed to buy

Instead I found suitable mounting places for the components and put it together

I had one glitch. Raymarine tech support is a dead end.
The new flux sensor sits in a special bracket. There are two foam rings, one
above and one below the sensor, that cushion the ride in the bracket. One of
mine tore when I tried to remove the paper backing from the foam. The foam is
very weak compared to the glue, so the foam pulled apart leaving half of the
ring on the paper. I tried to get replacements from Raymarine. I hung on the
phone with tech support for over 30 minutes, twice. I even joined their online
tech support list, posted my questions, not one response. I applied for their
rebate, and emailed them photos of my install. No answer there either.
Reported that problem to their tech support. No response. My system works
without the foam ring, so I gave up trying to fix what ain't broke. I'll
probably make a ring out of soft tubing or maybe the rubber spline used for
screening.

I bought a EV-100 recently
The documentation is extremely confusing
I called Raymarine Tech Support. There is not rudder indicator.
I suspect you are seeing that reference in the manual that talks about the
ST4000. The person I talked to said there are about two pages in that manual
about installing the motor mount to the wheel. Once that is done, put that
manual aside.
the other problem I had was there is no power cable for one of the units and I
find the black/white cables are short. Apparently both of these issues are my
responsibility and have to buy these cables myself.

Does the EV-100 wheel pilot system require a rudder reference system?
Raymarine sells those for about $250.

Gee, Richard; I’m speechless… :^) Thanks!

Mark — Defender’s current public price on the EV-100 wheel pilot system is LESS
than my dealer’s cost right now. I’m hoping that means that Raymarine is
coming out with a newer (more powerful?) version, but don’t hold your breath.
They’re pretty tight-lipped about upcoming products.

If anyone on the list is looking for a wheel pilot, now’s the time to get one —
$1159.99 plus a $300.00 rebate.
