My 35-1 has the same two bands, one at each end of the keel. When I first got the boat the insurance survey found voids at the top end of them on one side where the raised part fairs back to the normall hull thickness, which had to be from the original layup as there's not much load at the top and no sign of cracks. Nevertheless, my insurance co. made me fill those voids with epoxy...

In the process of re-configuring Touche' batteries to add a dedicated start battery, I pulled everything out of the aft dinette storage. While the space was empty. I thought I'd grab a picture of the strip of core that is at the aft end of the keel. There's a matching strip on the other side.

This extra structure adds strength at the aft end of the keel in case of a hard grounding.
