Bev, So fun going by memory. When I splashed Beemer in December, I had a wonderful stream of water from my stuffing box. Unscrewed and added one loop of packing. All dry after. 90% certain it was 3/8 thick. As Russ mentioned, other than a stream of water (not bad), easy to do while boat is in the water. BoB Caughran 29MKII Beemer
