I cleaned greased and oiled all of my winches (11 in total all Barient)
with Harken Performance white winch grease and Harken pawl oil, rather
pricey stuff for the amount you get...I was surprised at first to find some
plastic rollers in some of these old winches but I guess that's normal.
After getting them apart I cleaned everything up with a soft tooth brush
and varsol, rinsed and wiped dry, for the plastic rollers it says on the
grease label to use pawl oil on the rollers, not the grease. So I followed
the instructions and so far no issues whatsoever, winches run smooth and
sound good to me, biggest winches I had were 2 Barient 34+ if I remember
right, 2 speed self tailing, a little more complicated but nothing that
difficult really
