Same wood, lignum vitae, was used for blocks on sailing vessels like Bluenose built in Lunenburg NS. The A. Dauphinee and Sons Block Shop in Luneburg town produced a large assortment of blocks, dead eyes and other parts for years and even today Arthur Dauphinee is still producing parts in his shop on Second Pennisula. Lignum vitae is quite difficult to obtain nowadays, it is a very beautifu hard wood...i always wanted to have a pair of lignum vitae sheet blocks for Alianna just for show.
