Is the engine original? It seems that the early production 37+ (37XL) were built with Yanmar 3HM35F engines. The later ones were built with Universal M35 (IIRC).
The model and serial should be on the front of the engine (pulley side), just below the high pressure fuel pump. I'll send pictures of mine so you can compare.
