Isn't the magic eraser absorbant ? That can't be good in an engine compartment I was googlin' "ABYC" and "engine" but so far can't find anything specific about sound insulation (I do see that absorbent material is not welcome)

I looked up melamine on wikipedia and it turns out to be the standard used for sound proofing and also the same foam used for the Mr. Clean Magic Eraser. Interesting read.
