IIRC, my ground wire is quite large as well. The wire is terminated with a ring which is secured on one of the 5 mounting screws. Not that it is needed but under the same screw is a 14 gauge wire jumper that has a ring terminal on one side and a female disconnect on the other so that it can attach to the spade of the sender.
