Total was around $3500. $2800 for the davits, including the rail supports and one 6 to1 block on the port (outboard) side davit. Then another 700 or so for the heavy duty cross support. The rail supports and the cross supports were all custom made to my specifications. The transom angle was a few degrees ff (my bad) but I was able to shape the supports a little to get the flange flat on the transom. The admiral and I installed it ourselves.

We're cruisers, so the extra weight is no big deal. Before we put the davits and dinghy on Alera had a 2-3 degree bow down attitude. The weight of the dinghy and davits balances the anchor and ground tackle quite nicely!

After three full seasons it's been great. Dropping the dinghy is a snap (so long as I remember to put the drain plug back in before I drop it). And I use the electric winch installed by the PO for our main halyard to lift the motor side of the dinghy.

I installed a set of Kato Island davits on my 37+ and few years ago. http://www.katomarine.com/saildavits-island.htm

They work fine and are heft enough to handle 300 lbs of RIB and motor hanging off the stern under full sail, so long as the dinghy is racheted down as tight as possible.

Just make sure that your aft pulpit is solid and wide enough to accommodate the width needed for the dinghy and for sure get the cross support with it to add rigidity.

With this set up I keep the fuel and lots of other stuff in the dinghy that would would never do towing it.
