Alex,

that arrangement for the main sheet is non-standard. You can always go back to
what it was originally (I don’t think you want to) – it was a funny
(triangular) arrangement on the cabin top. Not overly good for trimming the
sail, but certainly easier for bimini installation. Another option is (what
many C&C 24 owners did (and my previous boat had)) add a traveller very close
to the companion way. This way, the main sheet attach a couple of feet of the
boom’s end so the sheet are much further forward giving you much more room at
the back of the cockpit for a bimini.

good luck

Alex,

My 35-1 has end boom sheeting and the traveler in the cockpit. I have forward
and aft biminis to allow passage of the mainsheet purchase. I have a filler
piece which zips in/out for sailing or when at anchor or docked. The filler
piece is split with a hook and loop closure around the mainsheet purchase.
Installation/removal takes only a couple minutes.

When installed, the filler piece makes a noticeable difference.

  Hi Friends,

  I just joined the esteemed C&C family by purchasing a 1977 C&C 24. I wonder
whether anyone has any design ideas for a bimini that could cover the full
cockpit while under sail. The issue is that the mainsheet lands on a shackle
in the middle of the cockpit. A helmsman's bimini is possible but this is not
enough for the boss. We are thinking about a slot, double zippers or low slung
straps so that the sheet and boom can pass across the cockpit. A
California-tyle dodger and bimini combination would turn into a sweat lodge
here in Florida. I have started searching the archives but have not found
anything yet. Does anyone recall discussion of this in previous emails or have
some experience with the dilemma? It would be great to connect with other C&C
24 owners. Thanks.
