Something's up with the ball and socket. They should be perfectly 
straight.  The bend is very slight that should not be a problem.  It'll 
straighten right up once you free up the joint and put some tension on it. 
 

Should be fine with loosening them up.  Just to be on safe side you might 
want to loosen-up the whole rig to avoid uneven loads.  Pick a calm day, 
make sure you put tape on the threads to mark your current setting. 

Hopefully all the ball / socket joint needs is lubrication.  Make sure You 
look at it very carefully inspecting for cracks and the overall state of 
the mast in the surrounding area.  I would definitely not sail it until 
it's been looked at.
