On the way to Bermuda a few years back, a nice mahi got onto the line; but we didn’t notice it for a while, so it dragged behind the boat for quite a while. Once we realized it was on, we reeled it in and I proceeded to spray vodka into the gill slits. The darn thing wouldn’t die; it just kept vigorously flopping around. I imagine all the oxygen from all that water through which we dragged it gave it quite a buzz… :^)
It finally gave in (after about a pint of cheap vodka) and we ate some as sushi and some as fried strips. Yum! It’s really surprising how quick it works, easy > trick if you you didn’t finish off the fish booze too.
