I have Garhauer rigid vangs on both my 25 and my 38. Can’t endorse them enough
for both reliability and usability, and the price is pretty good as well.

I’m pretty sure the vang on the 25 is 12:1 (and cost about $200), and the one
on the 38 is 16:1.

The vang on my 38 cost about $300, but that was the better part of 10 years
ago. I see the 20-1 is over $450 in the current Garhauer catalog. I also see an
aluminum version of the vang (instead of stainless) for $375.

If you decide to get the used vang, call Guido at Garhauer and he will make you
a set of tangs to fit the boom and the mast of your 27. That is what happened
when a friend installed a used Garhauer vang on his Cal 27 three or four years
ago. Sent Guido a cardboard template for the shape of the spars (press solder
wire around the spars and trace the shape onto a piece of cardboard), and he
sent back the stainless tangs. I think it cost about $50 plus shipping.

I bought one in 2005 for my 26.

Probably the same model - I paid $209 CDN ‎new.

Subject: Stus-List Garhauer Rigid Boom Vang

I’m talking to a fellow here that has a Garhauer rigid vang for sale, from a
C&C 30. Matching it up to info online I think it’s a RV20-1 ... an older model,
not the current one.

I’m trying to get more specifics on this actual unit, but I’ve seen references
online dated 2002 and 2006, so it’s at least in that age range.

I realize there may have to be some mods to adapt the boom and mast tangs to
the 27’s mast.

Anyone got any clue what the boom vang might be worth?
