Not saying the C&C 30 will not do well - just that there are only enough racers with $$$ to support so many of these classes. Also note the Farr 30 seems to be embarrassing the newer Farr down at Key West. The C&C seems to be rated much faster than it is on the water so far, which won't make for happy PHRF campers.

It may or may not succeed as a racing boat, but I can't see it ever accomplishing what the original C&Cs did. I can't see them having second and third and fourth lives being family daysailors, cruisers, live-aboards, ocean voyagers, beercan racers, etc. I hope they do well racing. They won't sell enough to non-racers to be viable. I race on a J-80 (and on my 30-1), and I cannot imagine that the new 30 will ever be a 'legend'. Our boats are excellent all-purpose boats - race, cruise, camp, sturdy, etc. The new 30 may have 100 takers in a sea of similar one-design sportboats. We have over 600 of us and I'll bet most of them are still on the water, 30 years after the last was built.
