I've done a few "deck peels".  I use a vibrating saw to cut the skin.  Cuts
a nice thin line.  Makes replacing the peeled skin easier.

Remove all the bad core but leave a ledge of the original core around the
cut.  This will make it easy to get the right elevation when you replace
the skin.
