Harken does recommend rinsing with fresh water frequently and periodically cleaning more thoroughly with a mild detergent: "Clean: Keep your equipment clean and free-running by frequently flushing with fresh water. Periodically clean with mild detergent and water solution. Spin sheaves, rotate cams, and roll cars back and forth to distribute soap solution evenly." http://www.harken.com/uploadedFiles/Support/Service/maintenance-lr.pdf Ken H. Ken H.
