rob is right....earlier cca influence on cnc design did produce hulls that
under right conditions would surf...notably crusader
 redline35,redline41,cnc43 early models...redline requires 4to8
ftwaves....20 plus knots of wind aft....went from niagara to oswego on
lake ontario ..surfed all the way in one storm. estamated a sustained plus
40 knots...only other yacht doing same thing was a cal 40...they could stay
on a wave better&longer...great memorys..although at the time would rather
have had a good harbour of refuge...wave pattern so difficult could not
get in to rochester, colbourg, sodus ..coast guard advised ride it out to
mexico bay as front should have passed....CG could not even get out of
rochester harbour as waves were breaking over both piers....was very
exciting at time but we did wonder at time if would go end over end as
waves got much shorter &steep as got into shallower water approaching
mexico bay.of coarse engine would not start as trying to motor to
oswego...had to sail close hauled high winds to make oswego , this but one
of a number of times got boat surfing
