I've also heard that sailing with just the jib is bad but I'm not sure I buy it. When you sail with the main and jib you are not removing the point load from the jib, but adding the distributed load from the main as well.

By the way, what has surprised me is how well the 35-1 balances with just the jib (No. 2). In flat water, 10-12 kts breeze, I can let go of the wheel and the boat sails herself for 5 min or more. Maybe my rig is out of balance?
