It's only been about 16 months since I've done it but no ill effects so far. I used vinegar to clean up. I don't know that it would do anything more harmful than the sandpaper I used to fair everything smooth where the old name used to be .. there was a 'shadow' of the name that was proud of the rest of the hull. I certainly took my time with the sandpaper and was careful not to remove anything more than I needed to. If you look really hard you can still sort of make it out, but you have to know it's there. And that was followed up with compound and glaze. I guess what I'm saying is that in my case the easy-off was the first step ... that was followed by several steps that removed more gelcoat than the easy-off would have had an effect on. I haven't regretted it yet. The gelcoat is 34 years old, I'm realistic that eventually it'll just need a professional paint job or a very time consuming DIY.
