Your *key point* was when you said "to make sure its a sport/lifestyle/hobby for me..."

Before I bought this LF38 I had an Islander 28 -- a very stiff and forgiving little sailing machine (Bob Perry told me that it's still his favorite boat, back when I asked him if the C&C LF38 was a good boat) that boat made me focus on sailing characteristics as a primary criteria for the next boat. I sailed the heck out of it, and did as much weekend cruising as possible. I also did things with it that I'd never do with this boat, probably because I didn't know what I was doing and was learning through mistakes.

Mike's comment that a 30 is cheaper to maintain is right on the mark. Check out the price difference on a quality block for 3/8" line vs. 1/2" line. Tanks, engines, sails, slip fees, haul-out fees, paint, just about everything.

When I was working, some folks who didn't know a thing would say to me 'I'm thinking about buying a boat. Something about 40 to 45 feet.' I would always say 'Buy a little boat and learn, then buy a bigger boat, and then buy a bigger boat. Everyone I've met who buys a big first boat sails it a few times, scares the heck out of him or her self, and then lets it sit at the dock.' One guy took my advice, bought a Santana 24 and sailed it on the Pacific out of Santa Cruz, and still scared himself into buying a heavy full keel cruiser. Oh well.

Smaller boats are nimble and will provide you with faster feedback when you make a mistake, and that makes you a better sailor.

So sail the heck out of that 30, and buy a bigger boat when your heart tells you the time is right. The fact that you're even wondering says the time isn't right.

What is every one's thoughts and advice? I am trying to temper my
impulsiveness and just learn on and enjoy my 30' to make sure its a
sport/lifestyle/hobby for me but dangling the Landfall in front of me for
such a great price is tempting!!!
