Pete,

About 25 minutes from Providence and on the way to Newport, stop in Bristol,
RI. A fun town that is home to the Bristol Yacht Club, the Herreshoff museum
and a lot of good restaurants. The museum has Bill Koch's 12 meter
"American" in which he defended the cup and several Herreshoff designed
boats in various stages of rehabbing. One of the boats on display (actually
hanging from the ceiling) is a catamaran they designed and built in the
1890's that after doing horizon jobs when racing some very fast schooners
was outlawed. They are also building a 1/6 scale model of the Reliance which
is pretty interesting.

Safe Travels,

Subject: Stus-List Planning trip to S. New England- need advice from locals

I'm planning a trip to southern New England next month [not by boat].
Naturally, I'm most interested in the sailing attractions, such as Newport,
Mystic Seaport, and the like.
At this point, I'm thinking of renting a car in Providence and exploring as
many places as I can over a 5-day period.
I'd like to do one of the harbor cruises on a 12 meter as well as enjoy
local cuisine. Beyond these, I don't have much else on my to-do list.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

thanks,

Pete W.
