I change the impeller each year.
I pull the impeller after haulout and bag it with the key.
In the Spring I put in the spare or a new one and give last year's a rest. The
impeller is rubber and takes a set if left in the pump over the winter. Three
screws are easy to remove. I keep a tube of vaseline in spare parts tupperware
container marked "Engine and Prop". In that box is a spare oil filter, spare
fuel filter, spare Racor fuel filter, belts, wooden dowels to rod out the heat
exchanger, spare zincs for the engine, MaxProp, and shaft, a couple of oil
absorbent towels and water pump impellers, and any parts pertaining to the
Engine or Prop.

I've always used vaseline. And change the impeller every other year. It's cheap
and easy maintenance.

I have a quick question: what do you use to lube the impeller to let it survive
a wee bit longer in the dry environment before it starts pumping water?
thanks
