Dave
I have a 3gm30F and I put a new elbow in 2 weeks ago. My problem was
the engine would get hot if I went over 3300rpm then it was 3000 then it went
to 2800 and at that time I took the 90 degree fitting off the elbow and jammed
a coat hanger in the hole and after a while I could feel it opening up in there
and things got better for a while then it started again. Water flow kept
getting slower so I bought a new elbow kit. The Kit came with a new gasket new
bolts and the elbow assembly. I had to lay on top of the engine to get at the 4
bolts. Everything came apart with no problems. Putting the new one in was kind
of a task I had to lay on top of the engine and hold the whole assembly up with
one hand while trying to line the bolts up with the holes while keeping the
gasket in place, quite a task. I finally took 4 Allen wrenches a little smaller
than the threaded holes and put them through the elbow and gasket and into the
tapped holes. when I had 4 of them in the holes everyth
ing was more or less aligned. I then took 1 Allen wrench out and replaced it
with a bolt that threaded into the first hole no problem.. then took the next
Allen wrench out same thing the bolt went right in. With the 4 bolts in I
tightened everything up and job done. Make sure the rubber hose is connected
to the assembly before bolting it on the engine you can tighten the clamps
last. Don't ask how I discovered that part of the job !! The boat went in last
Wednesday started right up no leaks job done. Saturday the starter stopped
working here we go again !
