I have had an old Standard Horizon HZ2606 handheld for about 15 
years....has both the rechargeable battery and AA battery backup.  I 
almost always use the rechargeable battery......when the battery needs 
charging, I plug in for about 12 hours.....it doesn't have a charging 
base, just the simple wall plug in adapter on a wire.....have never had 
a problem.
