I've cruised St Vincent and the Grenadines and can say that it is very
different sailing than the BVI. First of all, most destinations are much
further apart and require open ocean sailing where you can not see your
next destination. This is not a problem for most of us who have done a lot
of blue water sailing, but it may be uncomfortable for novice sailors or
guest that have not done such sailing before. I had a few green passengers
on occasions. Many of the destinations are beautiful, but St. Vincent, in
particular, has a lot of piracy and can not be recommended. In addition,
the natives of many of the islands are often trying to scam the
uninitiated. They will do things like renting out moorings they don't own
and leave you to try to explain to the real owner why you are so tied up.
They will often approach you in skiffs many miles off shore and try offer
to "help" you navigate the local waters. They often won't take no for an
answer. I have had friends have natives board their vessels (without
permission). Personally, I prefer the BVI (I guess you figured that out by
now :-)
