The Landfall 38 has the same hull as the 38, but with a modified stern and a shorter draft and mast. I have had mine for 16 years and can say that the boat has no bad habits. It's one of the stiffest boats made by C&C and an excellent sailor. I know several 38's similar to the one you are considering, and the owners are all happy campers. I say go for it.
