Same result with the X-5 on my 35/2. But I see the same behavior when I am steering myself: it's so easy to keep on course going up wind or close reaching - the boat practically sails itself. But on a broad reach or straight downwind, especially with waves, it takes constant attention. So I forgive the autopilot for its similar behavior - would be embarrassing if it did much better than I can even when I am trying!
