That sounds like one heck of a trip. I usually figure .75 gallon per hour. Headwinds and rough seas, or pushing above cruising speed can increase that, especially with a two blade prop. Adverse currents or anything that slows the boat can also increase consumption. Our boat slows a lot when driving through seas. I monitor RPM, and exhaust color, but usually adjust RPM based more according to engine temperature. Even if I'm pushing, I maintain RPMs to keep the engine temp at around 190 to 195.
You could do some testing and run for 6 hours at a set RPM to measure your consumption? Clean the boat's bottom before leaving. It can easily save 10 to 20% on consumption, increase sailing and motoring performance, and shorten your time at sea. I am Planning to travel to Cartagena in Colombia from miami, 1400 miles stopping at Grand Caiman. First inter oceanic travel, any tips / brainstorm referring SPECIFICALLY to a C&c 33 ? This one is a 1986. Does anybody could share about "fuel consumption / rpm / knots" experience for Yanmar 2GM20F used in this 33' with a two blades propeller? Diameter? Have a nice day ! _______________________________________________ This List is provided by the C&C Photo Album http://www.cncphotoalbum.com CnC-List@cnc-list.com
