Ray,
The cunningham runs from a cringle a foot or two above the main tack fitting down to deck level where it is often directed via turning blocks to a cleat or stopper near the companionway. It serves to pull down on the main, flattening the lower third of the sail in higher winds. I have always seen them run back to the cockpit, but I suppose they could just as well tie off at the base of the mast to a small cleat. I just haven't seen one done like that. My boat has a hook attached to the end of the cunningham so we can remove it when stowing the main (rolling it up). Does that help? Does anyone have a diagram of where it runs on the boat or could explain it to me. Thanks, Ray Macklin Libertyville, IL LakeHouse
